I have a passion for composing music that transcends boundaries and encompasses a range of mediums and contexts, including concert music, film music, theater music, and more. for the last few years, I have focused on the fusion of diverse musical cultures and experienced various combinations of vocals, which have been a constant source of inspiration throughout my musical journey.
I was born in Tehran-Iran in 1987. Music became an essential part of my life when I was a child. My first serious musical contact was with the Violin, where I started taking lessons at the age of 5. As I grew older I got in touch with more instruments like Kamancheh (Iranian String instrument) and more specifically with Piano.
I graduated with honors in Music Performance from the University of Tehran in 2010 and earned a Master’s degree in Composing for Film from the Conservatorium Van Amsterdam under the guidance of Jurre Haanstra in 2012 where I also studied Karnatic music with Rafael Reina. I later completed my composition studies with Martijn Padding and Yannis Kyriakides at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague in 2015.
I have presented my music at various festivals in Europe, the United States, and Asia, working with multiple ensembles such as Kronos Quartet, Hermes ensemble, Orkest De Ereprijs, Riccioti ensemble, Oerknal ensemble, Ragazze Quartet, Phion Orchestra, Cappella Amsterdam, BBC singers, and Doelen ensemble. I’ve participated in the 20th Young Composers Meeting – Apeldoorn, Netherlands (2014), and Holland Festival (2015). I have also attended various artistic residencies such as AiEP Contemporary Dance Company (Milan), Kinitiras Studio (Athens), and Akropoditi Dance Center (Syros). In 2015, I won the music education award from Listhus Artistic Residency to hold workshops for music teachers at the Music School of Fjallabyggd, Iceland.
After graduation, I have been regularly invited as a guest lecturer at the University of Tehran.
In October 2016, I was awarded the” Tenso Young Composers Award 2016 for my piece” And the world stopped Lacking You…” for A Cappella Choir. In 2017, I was commissioned by San Francisco’s Grammy Award-winning Kronos Quartet to write a piece for Fifty for the Future: The Kronos Learning Repertoire. A project devoted to the most contemporary approaches to the string quartet, designed expressly for the training of students and emerging professionals. Since then, I have been regularly collaborating with Kronos Quartet.
In February 2019 my Opera ” Turan Dokht” in collaboration with Miranda Lakerveld premiered at Holland Festival 2019.
In July 2022, I released my debut album” A Thousand Butterflies” by 30 M Records. A portrait album that looks back on my 11-year journey as a composer, “A Thousand Butterflies” evokes a life that has crossed continents. It spans a range of styles and includes work for a variety of instrumental forces as well as electronics.
